We are delighted to announce that we are officially a Registered Charity 💫

We never expected that In2MedSchool would grow and develop this quickly and this is all thanks to the support of our fantastic volunteers 💕

What does this mean for us? Well hopefully we can use this as an opportunity to get more funding and expand further to help as many aspiring medics from disadvantaged backgrounds as possible!

In just over 12 months, we have become one of the largest widening participation initiatives in the U.K., spanning across every medical school. Thank you Next Jump for opening your doors to our Directors and Officers, allowing us to come together from all over the U.K.

​

The fundamental belief of In2MedSchool is that all aspiring medics should be given an equal chance at applying to medical school. We now have 2,000 school students on our free 1:1 mentorship programme. We also continue to provide free resources and events!

We are excited to launch the new In2MedSchool Ambassadors Programme! Applying for medical school is not a straightforward process and obtaining the necessary work experience is part of this challenge.

 

Our Ambassadors are junior doctors committed to facilitating a 5-day work experience placement in hospitals and/or GP practices around the country.

TOM DONALDSON CHARITABLE TRUST GRANT 2021

 

We are proud to have partnered with Tom Donaldson Charitable Trust Foundation to provide 5x£100 grants for our Mentees.

​

These aim to support our Mentees in East Midlands region with any costs they may face, whether work experience related, to buy stationery or to support themselves with day-to-day costs. More details and the Application Form can be found here. Deadline: 31st May 2021.

IN2MEDSCHOOL TEAM WINS AT the london medical research conference 2021

 

We are extremely happy to report that three members of our Team - Anna Chiara Corriero, Lim Shan Ming and Rehaan Khokar have won the first prize of the delegate choice for Best Abstract at the London Medical Research Conference 2021 which took place this weekend! They presented work titled "Overcoming the disparities in medical school application: Evaluating free virtual events".

INEQUALITIES IN HEALTH ALILIANCE

 

We are proud to announce that In2MedSchool joined the Inequalities in Health Alliance, a coalition of organisations with an interest in improving the health of the UK. The organisations have come together to campaign for a cross-government strategy to reduce health inequalities - this coincides with what our work, which aims to diversify the future generations of doctors.

IN2MEDSCHOOL WINS AT HLA CONFERENCE 2020

 

We are happy to announce that further to our members presenting at the Healthcare Leadership Academy Fourth Annual Conference, two members representing In2MedSchool team have won an oral presentation award! Gabriela Barzyk and Brian Wang presented an oral presentation titled "In2MedSchool: A student-led, national widening participation initiative for underprivileged pre-medics" at the conference which took place on the 21st and 22nd of November 2020.

IN2MEDSCHOOL AT HLA CONFERENCE 2020

 

We are extremely happy to report that In2MedSchool continues to reach new milestones as five members of our team had the opportunity to present work relating to the programme at the national Healthcare Leadership Academy Fourth Annual Conference.

 

The event took place on the 21st and 22nd of November 2020, and aimed to provide inspiration, motivation and guidance to healthcare professionals and students who are passionate about leadership and innovation.

The conference delegates, made up of Mentors and Committee Members, had the chance to present data about the initiative, our Mentee demographics as well as our social media engagement at the time of abstract submission. The following work was presented:

Poster Presentation:

  • Do Widening Participation Events actually improve diversity in medicine? - Charlotte Buttercase, Will Goodrum, Brian Wang

  • Utilising Social Media to Increase Engagement with Students Interested in Medicine from Disadvantaged Backgrounds - Myurri Lohesan

  • In2MedSchool: Supporting the Next Generation of Aspiring Medics - Gabriela Barzyk, Brian Wang

Oral Presentation:

  • In2MedSchool: A student-led, national widening participation initiative for underprivileged pre-medics: Gabriela Barzyk, Brian Wang

​

 

When asked about his experience with Research, Will Goodrum talked about the benefit of getting involved with the data analysis, going on to say: “Mine and Charlotte’s work analysing the demographics and academic performance of our Mentees has provided an invaluable experience both to assess the extent to which In2MedSchool is achieving its aims and to showcase the research.”

IN2MEDSCHOOL WINS "MOST SUSTAINABLE PROJECT" AT NATIONAL WIDENING PARTICIPATION CONFERENCE 2020

 

We are happy to report that In2MedSchool has won the Most Sustainable Project award the National Widening Participation Conference 2020, organised by the Medical Schools Council (MSC) and supported by members of the National Medical Schools WP Forum!

​

The award is given to "a project that is well planned and has the potential to be effective in the long term", recognising that "the project is resourceful and appropriate for the current working environment". It was awarded to a poster presented by Brian Wang and Gabriela Barzyk, titled In2MedSchool – Supporting the Next Generation of Aspiring Medics, which looked at setting up the scheme, success to date and our Mentee population.

​

The conference took place between 16th-21st of November 2020, with variety of events offered to share insights into widening participation and WP work, research, teaching.

​
